These were my notes for a Lake District trip I made in April 2025. We managed nearly everything, and got over 100 points.
4 day trip, arriving Saturday afternoon, and leaving Wednesday afternoon. Aim to get 3×40 = 120 points! To celebrate everyone's 40th. Or perhaps a more doable 100. Hopefully the weather is nice…
The Big One. Consisting of:
Starts at the car park before you get to Wasdale Head Inn. The big climb up to and across from Scafell Pike before the other three. Probably in the region of 9 hours round trip, including time to activate per summit.
Consisting of:
Park by the White Lion hotel in Patterdale, and it's a loop around them all and back again. Circa 8 hours including activations.
Consisting of:
Park at Kirkstone Pass car park, go NW to Stony Cove then High Street, turn around and back to the car park. Red Screes is the other side but a quick up and down…
These could be done individually, for example in the afternoon after the High Street route, or perhaps in the morning before leaving to go home. There is an option of doing both together, probably the most interesting would be with two cars at either end, so there wasn't such a big return loop or so much step retracing.
I've done the route from Scales, up Blencathra, then across to Skiddaw and down to Rabbit Warren parking. There are a few parking areas on the way back, Dodd woods or even up to Peterhouse cottages, just wherever you can find! Around 5:15 all in with activations.
Up and down from Scales plus activating would be around 2 hours plus activation time.
A nice loop starting from Rabbit Warran parking, covering several other tops, is around 3 hours plus activation time.
But there are many routes up Skiddaw. A slightly shorter route is up and down from Millbeck, but only by 30 minutes.
A 8 pointer, G/LD-009, near Crummock Water. Possible to do a loop around. Shortest up and down is 2:05 plus activation.
A 6 pointer, G/LD-015, that's near Grasmoor but makes for quite the hike between both, around 5 hours.
An 8 pointer, G/LD-013, sits on it's own as a walk from Coniston. Park at Walna Scar, and walk up in around 1:05. Can do a bit of a round trip at 1:45 plus activation time.
On the otherside of Penrith (G/NP-001), this 8 pointer is perhaps one to do on the way to the Lakes. Supposedly a quick hike if you can park by the radar entrance on top of the hill. The radar is on Great Dun Fell, and you can park by the gate. About 50 mins-1 hour walk each way plus activation. e.g. Arrive by 3pm and leave by 5:30pm. Into Keswick by 6:30pm.
| Day | Route | Points |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday | Drive down, do Cross Fell | 8 |
| Sunday | Scafell Loop | 34 |
| Monday | Helvellyn Loop | 32 |
| Tuesday | High Street three, then Blencathra in PM | 28 |
| Wednesday | Morning Skiddaw then drive home | 10 |
| Total Points | 112 | |
Not quite the 120…Need to fit in another 8 pointer…like Old Man or Grasmoor. Only real way would be High Street three, then Old Man of Coniston on Tuesday and then Wednesday morning do Skiddaw and Blencathra. Could do the walk through, them drive back to Scales, have lunch at the White Horse Inn and then go home. Probably need to leave the house at 0630, to be at White Horse for around 1pm.
